Laboratory Manager

Job details:

To assist the continued smooth-running of the company, VAL is actively seeking an enthusiastic, diligent, organised and practically minded individual for a Laboratory Manager position.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in cell culture and molecular biology to enable them to manage the day to day running and responsibility of the Monoclonal antibody production laboratory. Main duties include:

  • Hands-on testing of samples
  • Collating and validating data
  • Reporting results to customers
  • Supervising and training staff
  • Organising calibration and servicing of equipment

The essential requirements for this role are as follows:

  • A good honours degree in a relevant life science subject
  • At least 5 years’ laboratory experience in a relevant subject, such as tissue culture, immunology, or molecular biology techniques, plus 1 – 2 years laboratory management practise including staff management
  • A flexible approach to work, with excellent problem solving, communication and organisational skills
  • A team-player with the ability to organise, supervise and motivate staff as well as manage all laboratory resources
  • Accuracy, consistency of approach and a keen eye for detail
  • Capacity to cope with a varied workload, including fluctuating priorities and seasonal pressures
  • Ability to make impartial and independent decisions, and to handle confidential information appropriately

Experience in tissue culture and molecular biology, and practise of the following techniques is highly desirable:

  • Visual identification of bacteria and fungi contamination by microscopy
  • ELISA assays

The salary will be in the range of £28,000 – £36,000 per annum (depending on qualifications, skills and experience).
